Watson Ecology was founded in 2017. Susan Watson has dedicated her career of 17 years to the study and monitoring of aquatic organisms, from all regions of the UK and all waterbody types.
With a passion and dedication second to none, the service that we offer will provide cost-effective analysis to suit any drought permit, pollution response or ecological assessment.
We have an excellent understanding of the use of macroinvertebrates and phytoplankton for compliance with the Water Framework Directive and other legislation, and are experienced in applying these policies to suit clients’ needs. An in-depth understanding of the use of biotic indices for the purposes of environmental assessment and management compliments our laboratory service.
Ecologist Susan Watson has an unrivalled passion for aquatic ecology.
She has been managing laboratories, implementing quality control regimes, and managing a team of taxonomists for over 12 years.
Coupled with a deep understanding of external influences on a waterbody, she is proficient in the design of monitoring programmes, calculation and interpretation of biotic indices.
Susan has passed the Natural History Museum's Identification Qualification (E062) in Freshwater Macroinvertebrate Species, and attained a mark of 98%. She has also completed the Introductory Course on Freshwater Algal Identification run by Durham University and the course on Chironomid Pupal Exuviae Technique (CPET), run by the Freshwater Biological Association.
